AI is in fact creating some new jobs for Gen Z. While many Gen Z are nervous about losing out on job opportunities because of AI, some are leaning into it by picking up the new roles to manage and develop it. According to a LinkedIn study, Gen Z makes up two thirds of new hires among roles for “forward deployed engineer and AI engineer.” And for AI-related roles in general, the median salary is significantly higher than for other roles, standing at $177K compared to $80K. AI jobs are booming across LinkedIn, up 156% between 2024 and 2025, and many companies are offering these salaries to attract talent with advanced grad degrees, especially in higher-level roles. However, it is notable that women are a minority in new hires for AI roles, making up a quarter or less in three of the highest paying titles, and only being hired equally to men at the lowest paying.
