Creators are stressed about incorrect AI content labels. AI tools are increasingly embedded in social platforms whether creators like it or not. But the platforms also know their users care about transparency, which leads them to mark or even remove “slop” content. TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and even Substack have instituted AI detection systems that flag anything that may be made with or entirely by AI. However, these labeling programs are far from perfect, and have been incorrectly flagging tons of content from creators who pride themselves on not using AI. For creators who feel AI use doesn’t align with their public values, AI badges feel like a “scarlet letter” that can cause issues with their audience, as more and more disdain seeing even partially AI-made content. False AI labels also put creators’ relationship with brands at risk when brands explicitly prohibit using AI for the content. (Business Insider)
