The next level of Gen Z’s analog revival is handwriting at work. They certainly aren’t swearing off tech, but some Gen Z are gaining a new affinity and appreciation for paper notes at their desk. Whether reminders on Post-its over a typed to-do list or a physical notebook to flush out ideas, this reintegration seems to be driven by a couple factors. For one, some find it to be the best hack for focusing when their screens are full of tabs and pings. But it could partially be a quiet AI pushback; writing out thoughts to problem solve gives them privacy and agency that a chatbot summarizing and suggesting for them does not. (Which also aligns well with the analog revival everyone is seeing.) Others find it to be simply more human—it can make their desks a space occupied by things they’ve actually made for themselves, or stop their conversations from being interrupted by typing notes.
