Gen Z is mostly staying home on the weekends.

Jul 30 2026

Gen Z is mostly staying home on the weekends. Nearly three quarters of 18-29-year-olds say “staying in has become my default weekend plan,” with the same share reporting they stayed in at least two weekends every month. For the majority of those young people, “saving money” was the top reason they cited for staying in—more than two thirds of Gen Z said going out wasn’t worth spending money. This sentiment also makes them avoid plans altogether: 62% said they avoided making plans to go out because they didn’t want to experience financial regret. While another four in ten said they don’t have money to spend on “fun,” 80% of respondents said they are interested in “affordable weekend social experiences.” (Morningstar)
