Fashion schools and students are reckoning with AI. It’s not just students in tech and office work grappling with how AI is changing education and careers. Top fashion schools like FIT and Parsons are also thinking about how to best prepare students for a future dominated by AI without sacrificing their creativity. FIT recently launched its AURA Committee, which stands for “AI Usage, Responsibility and Adaptation” and sets guardrails around AI use in specific classes. At Parsons, faculty and Adobe creative teams have partnered to conduct research on how generative AI is used in creative industries, while students have access to Adobe’s new AI prototypes. It’s a tricky balance to strike for aspiring Gen Z fashion designers, especially since many in the fashion industry believe that AI is creating a “critical thinking gap” and is a threat to creative work.
