Gen Z feels more optimistic about America than other gens.

Jun 03 2026

Gen Z feels more optimistic about America than other gens. According to a new poll by Elon University, 48% of 18-29-year-olds believe celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. will bring people together, compared to 40% of Millennials and 31% of those 46-and-over. (Though, notably, this is not the majority.) Another 46% of Gen Z believes that the signers of the Declaration of Independence would be proud of the U.S. today, compared to 33% of Millennials and 25% of Baby Boomers. But while Gen Z was also the most likely gen to rank democracy in the U.S. as “excellent,” that represents only 11% of them. When it comes to the future, Gen Z is also feeling more optimistic. More than half believe that 50 years from now there will be more equality (57%) and freedom (60%) for U.S. citizens in the country, but older demographics are not as sure. (Audacy)
