Sephora expanded its partnership with Google AI. This week, Sephora became the first beauty giant to enable shopping directly within Google Agentic Checkout, which lets users discover products, ask beauty questions, and make purchases. The expansion is part of Sephora’s broader AI strategy, as the brand already has experimented with its own AI Beauty Chat on their website and app and has an app in ChatGPT. So far, Sephora says its embrace of LLMs has led to consumers making more same-day purchases and higher conversion rates. It makes sense given YPulse data shows that 61% of 18-24-year-olds and 53% of 13-17-year-olds use AI to compare products and prices, and see it as a prime shopping tool. But the brand notes they don’t see the tool as a replacement for human beauty advisors—which also aligns with what Gen Z wants from brands using AI. (Glossy)
