“Loneliness influencers” are documenting their solo lives on TikTok—and finding community in it. A new wave of content creators are building young audiences by showing their mundane routines and quiet lives without lots of friends or a partner. Thirtysomething creator Devon Noehring has gained 357K Instagram followers documenting her life as a “single introvert.” On Instagram, 24-year-old Lana Isa posts vlogs of herself going to the grocery store alone at night and staying at home for her audience of 200K. These creators are honest about the fact that they don’t have over-the-top social lives—but many do end up finding community in the comment section and IRL because of it. The content seems to resonate with other Gen Z women especially because it’s honest and relatable after watching performed happiness online their whole lives. And anyway, this gen is reportedly embracing “solo-maxxing” these days, so loneliness can be romanticized, too. (The Cut)
