And on that note…are Gen Z YouTubers the future of moviemaking?

And on that note…are Gen Z YouTubers the future of moviemaking? After Obsession and Backrooms, signs are pointing to yes. According to YPulse data, the majority (83%) of 13-24-year-olds want to see online celebrities in more traditional content like TV series and movies. And while Hollywood has, sometimes unsuccessfully, placed influencers or content creators as stars in movies, it seems to make more sense to put creators behind the camera. Gen Z content creators not only know how to film videos with small budgets, but they also understand the kind of storylines that have the potential to go viral with their peers. Horror in particular is a successful space for these creators right now. And whether that’s because of these directors or simply the genre working in their favor, the majority of teens and young adults like or love horror according to YPulse data. Plus, the horror movies this gen is making reflect real anxieties among their peers, which makes them even more enticing to see and talk about. (Gold Derby)
