Spotify users were not fans of the brand’s temporary disco ball logo. For the platform’s 20th birthday, Apple users were greeted with a new app icon: a 3D, glittery disco ball. Notably, it’s a darker shade of green than their classic, minimal icon and many said it made it blend into the black background, making it look muted like an app mid-update. The plan was always for the ball to be a temporary logo change, and as negative takes on it abounded across social media, the official brand account replied to some assuring it would be gone soon. Gen Z is always looking for innovation from brands, but not every visual rebrand lands—which makes social listening extra important. (Variety)
