Bumble is reinventing itself—again—to attract Gen Z users. The app is introducing a new AI assistant called “Bee” to help users create and optimize their profiles. (Something Hinge has also introduced.) But the biggest change is that the app will also no longer rely on swipes or urge women to make the first move in some matches, although it’s unclear what they plan to replace those features with. Instead, Bumble says it will focus on getting people offline on dates and meetups, while also doubling down on group dates and features like “Bumble BFF.” The founder of Bumble hopes that these changes will make online dating feel fun again, especially knowing that Gen Z feels burnt out by dating apps but still craves to find a romantic connection. YPulse data shows that Bumble ranks fourth on the list of top dating apps among 18-39-year-olds, so maybe this rebrand is what the platform needs to push past competitors. (Axios)
