Some Gen Z shoppers are fine with the markup at convenience stores. Despite the issues inflation causes them, many young adults are willing to spend extra money for items like snacks, alcohol, and nicotine. Across the U.K., nearly half (46%) of Gen Z 18-24-year-olds said they’re comfortable paying a markup of £5 or more per visit, according to a survey by Two Wombats. On average, Gen Z paid £6 or more for convenience store items, compared to around £5 for Younger Millennials (25-34) Millennials (35-44), and around £4 for Boomers. This divide shows that young adults are more likely to prioritize saving time over saving a few pounds over olders gens—who might find another spot for better prices. YPulse data reflects this, with fast food and food and grocery deliveries being one of the top splurges that 13-39-year-olds wouldn’t give up. (Two Wombats)
