Some Gen Z are reportedly sabotaging their company’s AI strategies. The response to AI becoming increasingly implemented in workplaces from employees has been mixed, especially among young ones. And a new survey by Writer and Workplace Intelligence across the U.S. and U.K. found that some opposing workers are going to further extremes than just refusing to use AI tools, like interfering with performance reviews and purposefully producing low-output responses to make AI seem less effective. While the report found 29% of employees admit to sabotaging AI strategies, that number jumped to 44% among Gen Z. This has a lot to do with the fact that workers fear AI will replace their jobs—a feeling people are describing as “FOBO,” or the “fear of becoming obsolete.” At the same time, the majority of executives agree that employees who don’t become proficient in AI won’t be considered for promotions.
