Netflix is launching Netflix Playground, a new gaming app for kids. The new ad-free Netflix Playground app will include interactive games meant for children up to 8-years-old, featuring characters from popular titles like Sesame Street and Peppa Pig. Netflix first launched in-platform games back in 2021, though they failed to gain the traction they hoped. They’ve leaned back in as of late, though. Last year, they dabbled in TV gaming with a series of party games meant to be played in groups. Now, they’re narrowing their focus on kids, which is smart considering we know that kids are growing up with devices in their hands. Plus, moving to a separate app rather than offering games alongside streaming may be what they need to make the games a primary destination. YPulse data shows that parents of 0-6-year-olds say their kids are already gaming on phones, tablets, and consoles, and the majority play video games on phones specifically weekly or more often.
