A new video-streaming app is aiming to lower kids’ screentime. (Yes, the irony.) Meevee, an Amsterdam-based children’s media company, is launching a video platform for 2-6-year-olds with the goal of offering “healthier, finite” screentime. The app isn’t free to access though and starts at $6.99 a month, including “direct-to-parent chat for real-time communications and insights” and suggestions for off-screen activities to balance watch time. The cofounders of the app said that they hope the launch will redesign the experience of screens in a way that’s actually good for kids, instead of totally taking them away. YPulse data from parents of 0-6-year-olds shows these kids are already watching plenty of video content, but many parents are setting screen time limits by themselves already.
