No billionaires, no problem—according to Gen Z. A new Pew Research Center survey shows a third of 18-29-year-olds find “being extremely rich”—defined as having billions of dollars—morally wrong, while only 10% of those 65-and-older say the same. While 63% of all respondents felt that extreme wealth wasn’t a moral issue, Gen Z had the highest number of people in any age group to argue that it is. Their feelings likely come from things like this generation increasing their charitable giving despite shrinking budgets, and some young adults even facing “negative wealth.” YPulse has seen a sense of “rich resentment” growing among this generation for years now, feeling billionaires and even celebrities at large are out of touch with the reality of the cost-of-living crisis.
