Pixar’s new movie built an early Fortnite fanbase. Tom Lizard first appeared briefly in Elio and was the center of the teaser for the new movie Hoppers that aired with it. Just from that, fans had already latched onto him—but after adding Tom as a Fortnite skin, his popularity took off. The skin launched just before Hoppers came out last weekend, which—as intended—started driving hype to go see it. Across socials, gamers are saying they love a “goofy” character skin, making memes about it and posting recordings playing as him. The director of Hoppers even chimed in on X to say this is why they made the movie. YPulse knows young people are highly influenced by the video games they play, from the music they try out to the movies they go see, and drumming up hype this way is almost an expectation now—because clearly, it works.
