Despite the headlines, British Gen Z might not be experiencing a religious revival.

Mar 04 2026

Despite the headlines, British Gen Z might not be experiencing a religious revival. For a long time, the story has been that Christianity in Britain is declining. But in 2025, a new report from the Bible Society claimed Gen Z church attendance in England and Wales has actually surged over the past six years. Christian communities welcomed the news, media outlets ran with it, and some churches pointed to their own examples of young people “turning to Jesus” as proof something new was happening. But some experts have started to question how reliable the report really is, especially since it leans heavily on one online survey—one where participants may have been given incentives to respond. And while there have been pockets of growth, YPulse data shows that since 2022, Gen Z’s overall relationship with faith isn’t dramatically shifting. (BBC)
