Gen Alpha has a lot of influence over their parents’ spending. While negative headlines and social content about Gen Alpha are easy to find (they can’t read, they’re always on tablets, they say 6-7, etc.), the influence the next generation has on spending can’t be ignored. Bloomberg Businessweek data shows that parents of Gen Alpha kids say their children have influence over everything from family activities to clothing brands bought to household groceries and entertainment to tech devices purchased. Parents also report that their kids have more access to digital payments and their own money than they did at the same age. YPulse’s 2023 Gen Alpha Spotlight report emphasized kids’ growing influence on parents’ purchasing decisions, a theme that has continued in our research on tweens, with 78% of tween parents telling YPulse their children introduce them to new brands.
