Young readers are rushing to finish Wuthering Heights before the new movie adaptation.

Young readers are rushing to finish Wuthering Heights before the new movie adaptation. Sales of the novel more than doubled in 2025, reaching 180K print copies in the U.S. alone. It has been primarily fueled by Emerald Fennell’s long-awaited film starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, which is arriving just before this Valentine’s Day. But the surge isn’t only movie hype—it’s becoming a collective experience. Readers are dissecting the novel in book clubs, group chats, and bookstore “read-ins,” while TikTok is full of first-timers who are “Brontë-maxxing” and discovering what one creator called “the most unhinged gossip you’ve ever heard.” Vogue also made the book its inaugural pick for their new book club. The title is also surely going to get more eyes with Charli XCX releasing a companion album to the film by the same name. (NYT)
