YPulse called it: estate sales are having a Gen Z moment. Trolling strangers’ homes for vintage treasures has become an “Olympic sport” for Gen Z shoppers. It’s thanks largely to niche influencers like D.C.-based Maddy Brannon, whose cheeky estate sale content has amassed 75K+ Instagram and 30K+ TikTok followers. YPulse data shows 62% of 13-39-year-olds say watching people score secondhand finds online has inspired them to shop secondhand themselves. At a recent Dupont Circle sale, one creator reports about 95% of the line was women in their 20s hunting for vintage clothing, midcentury furniture, and “grandmacore” pieces. On top of Gen Z’s excitement towards nostalgia, YPulse data shows 70% of young consumers say they get a high from scoring a great secondhand deal, and this is a shortcut to true vintage. (ELLE)
