Gen Z British women are driving a music industry boom.

Dec 31 2025

Gen Z British women are driving a music industry boom. U.K. music consumption hit a record high in 2025, with over 210M albums bought or streamed (a 5% rise from 2024) and audio streaming of British artists surpassing 200B plays for the first time. And Gen Z female artists are leading the charge. Olivia Dean, 26-years-old, became the first woman since Adele in 2021 to claim the U.K.’s No. 1 single and album in the same week. Dean’s album also spent 11 weeks in the US Billboard 200 Top Ten, showing this girl power revival has legs beyond the U.K. Lola Young, 24-years-old, delivered the year’s second-biggest single with “Messy,” and now, both she and Dean are nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys.
