A third of American teens say chatting with AI is as satisfying as talking to a friend. The Economist reported AI is rewiring childhood experiences; kids learn alongside chatbot tutors, listen to songs composed by them, read stories where they’re written in, and play AI video games that adapt to their skill level. YPulse has already told you Gen Z is turning to chatbots as therapists and confidants, with a Common Sense Media study finding 72% of teens have sought emotional support from them. But now, it seems Gen Alpha is forming those habits even earlier, potentially making them the first generation raised in an ultra-personalized tech bubble. Many companies aiming for parent and child users claim AI-powered toys can teach, play, and tell bedtime stories, promising personalized learning and entertainment that was once reserved for the elite. But the tradeoffs can be significant, as many parents worry about algorithms only serving up what kids already like, and always-agreeable AI companions offer no prep for dealing with imperfect humans.
