Amazon turned an anime’s long-awaited dub into an AI disaster.

Dec 02 2025

Amazon turned an anime’s long-awaited dub into an AI disaster. Banana Fish dropped on Prime Video in 2018, and it became an instant hit for its complex characters with emotionally raw storytelling. It quickly earned status as a monumental queer anime and fans begged for an English dub for years, only to be ignored—until now. Amazon finally released English and Spanish dubs, but instead of celebration, the anime community has erupted in fury. The entire dub is AI-generated, with zero human voice actors. The robotic, monotone delivery feels especially devastating as fans say the lifeless voices strips Banana Fish of its soul, cheapening a story that meant so much to so many. The backlash isn’t just about poor quality either; anime fans are all wondering what this precedent means for an industry built on voice actors who spend years honing their craft. (Screen Rant)
