Mariah Carey’s Sephora holiday collab is not getting love from Gen Z. The holiday queen is back with an ad dropped across her personal social media on Nov. 1, racking up 100M TikTok views alone. But, where viewers are usually thrilled to start the season with her, many say the ad’s premise this year mocks real workers fighting for better wages and healthcare. An elf (comedian Billy Eichner) says he’s going on strike for “elf revenge,” and plans to sell off her makeup to afford “elf therapy.” One viral TikTok said the timing is poor as many Americans saw health insurance premiums triple recently, so jokes about needing therapy but not affording it did not land. Commenters even called to boycott Sephora, with one noting the irony that “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is supposed to be anti-materialistic, and this ad is anything but. (Daily Dot)
