Gen Z isn’t climbing the corporate ladder so much as redrawing the map to find stability. According to a recent Glassdoor survey, 68% of Gen Z in the U.S. say they wouldn’t chase management responsibilities without a bigger paycheck or title change first. One reason is that AI has rattled their confidence; 70% are questioning the future of job security and think the quality and breadth of their work now adds more safety than hierarchy. Side hustles have also stepped in as the safety plan, with 41% having worked one for income and skills beyond a single employer. Office returns have changed the vibe, too, since 59% of Gen Z workers now value being in-person more for connection, even if rigid rules still clash with their need for flexibility.
