Cringe culture has Gen Z men afraid of dating.

Oct 30 2025

Cringe culture has Gen Z men afraid of dating. On TikTok, “get ready with me for a first date” clips are racking up thousands of views, while the post-date recaps can be even bigger—especially when it’s a fail. Now, every spilled drink, awkward goodbye, or dry text becomes content, and young men say this potential spotlight changes their behavior. They describe freezing up before they even send a first DM, worried a screenshot will hit group chats or land in a “fail compilation.” The constant threat of public shaming is more than just embarrassing; it makes everyday interactions feel risky and plants seeds of resentment that fracture their future relationships. As one Gen Z man put it, the fear of being filmed is well and thriving because people who share these videos face no real consequences—in fact, the views feel like a reward. (Rolling StoneVice)
