OpenAI’s video platform launch has sparked debate on an emerging trend. Last week, we told you that more than one fully AI video feed was soon to launch. And now that OpenAI’s Sora is here, everyone has opinions. Already, the app is rivaling the first week downloads of ChatGPT, with an estimate of more than 620K on the Apple App Store alone—despite being invite only. Right away, it encountered copyright issues (as could probably have been expected), as users created videos using notable characters from major IP holders. Sora quickly blocked certain prompt terms as IP owners clearly responded, but questions on future enforcement remain. From a general viewer perspective, many are complaining about the “AI slop” platforms like this create and encourage, while AI backers insist it democratizes creativity. (TechCrunch, the decoder)
