OpenAI and Meta are both launching fully AI video feeds. Have we entered, as User Mag put it, the slop-pocalypse? Last week, Meta announced the launch of “Vibes,” a video feed on the Meta AI app where users can generate AI content, and cross share it to Facebook or Instagram. (Where, on Reels, users are already complaining about the amount of AI content they see.) This week, WIRED reports that OpenAI has internally launched a video app which will soon go public, which is similarly algorithm driven and even lets users create videos of themselves after likeness verification. However, Meta’s announcement got many negative or confused comments, wondering why the company is pushing forward in this direction. So, even as fully-AI generated video content is seemingly going mainstream, not all users are ready to adopt it. (TechCrunch, Wired)
