Gen Z is rebranding childhood memories as “rare aesthetics.” On TikTok, Gen Z is reminiscing about the small, often overlooked moments that stick in their memories most—like the smell of crayons in class or grocery shopping the first night on vacation. Ironically, even though these moments are supposed to be “rare,” everyone in the comments seem to know exactly what they’re talking about. One TikTok with over 296K likes is captioned, “Rare aesthetic: School mornings during winter,” with images of a dark, rainy morning before the sun rises, to which someone responds, “It happens every year what do you mean rare?” YPulse has said before that Gen Z has mastered the art of the rebrand, taking ordinary, everyday moments and giving them a catchy new name—and their childhood memories are no exception.
