Solo travel is booming among young European travelers, especially young women. Lena Dunham’s new rom-com Too Much has struck a chord with young audiences, and it seems to be inspiring more to book solo getaways. Airbnb reports a major rise in bookings for independent trips since the show launched, especially among women and Gen Z—the brand is seeing a 32% YOY increase in searches for solo stays from 18-24-year-olds, higher than any other age group, while female solo bookings are growing by over 30% YOY. From London flats straight out of the film’s scenes to tiny treehouses in York, travelers are leaning into “main character energy” by embracing trips that are all about freedom, self-discovery, and doing whatever they alone want most.
