Dorm decorators are blowing up online and seeing more business with Gen Z students.

Aug 27 2025

Dorm decorators are blowing up online and seeing more business with Gen Z students. Last week, YPulse told you that #DormTok is back for another school year and more luxurious than ever. College students (and their parents) are taking their dorm décor up a notch by tapping into a new niche of influencers: dorm decorators. These influencers, typically Millennial women, are seen as a “subset of momfluencers” who make their money through affiliate revenue and in-person design services. Influencers like Laura Becker post dorm advice, offering tips on things like choosing the right mini fridge or packing their car for move-in day, and shares affiliate links from brands like Walmart and Amazon. Others like Alethea Johnson offer advice online as well as in-person decorating services. Either way, most women in the niche industry agree: #DormTok is booming, and dorm decorating is becoming a lucrative business. (NYT)
