Pokémon trading cards are “fueling a retail boom” thanks to Gen Z.

Pokémon trading cards are “fueling a retail boom” thanks to Gen Z. Last month, YPulse reported that some Gen Z males are betting big on Pokémon cards, treating them like investments that could beat stocks like Nvidia or the S&P 500. And while the game’s viral virtual cards certainly contributed to this resurgence of popularity, it’s the physical ones making these sales. Now, Walmart Marketplace revealed Pokémon card sales are growing over 10X year-over-year on the platform, while StockX reported that Pokémon’s sales growth year-over-year is up 367%. This popularity is likely due to Gen Z males’ obsession with collecting, trading, and selling cards—YPulse data shows trading cards are the number one item 13-39-year-old males collect. (Axios)
