New data shows most of Gen Z doesn’t spend any money on dating.According to Bank of America, more than half (53%) of Gen Z is spending $0 a month on dates, and a third said they spend less than $100 a month. According to experts, it’s not that they’re not interested in dating, but that they’re going for “low-cost hangouts and skipping fancy dinners.” And while this may sound absurd to older gens for young adults to not invest in dating, even for those in relationships, it makes sense. Young people are struggling financially—YPulse data shows 76% of 18-24-year-olds say inflation is impacting their spending. Plus, many are not putting a ton of effort into getting into relationships at the moment, which makes spending on dates mostly unnecessary; YPulse’s Dating and Relationships report shows 51% of single 18-24-year-olds agree, “Romantic relationships aren’t my priority right now.” (Fortune)
