Gen Z is the fastest-growing group on the private dating app Raya. While many young adults are growing frustrated with dating apps—YPulse data shows 67% of 18-24-year-olds think dating apps aren’t what they used to be—there may be an exception. Raya is well known for being an exclusive platform for celebs, though its network is mostly full of “semi-famous somebodies” like actors, athletes, influencers, and creatives. Singles are required to apply to be considered, with referrals to help their chances, and there is currently a 2.5M person waitlist for the $25 per month app. They also have rules designed for a more high-profile feeling: no screenshots and no posting about other profiles on social media. They report Gen Z is their fastest-growing user group now, with the gen making up about 40% its members and applicants—all thanks to the allure of a chance to connect with “high profile clientele,” but also equally intriguing “non-famous cool people.” (WSJ)
