Gen Z is concerned with Donald Trump’s suggestion to end mail-in ballots. For the 20% of college students who attend out-of-state schools, the mail-in method is their only way to vote—and 28% of all 18-29-year-olds voted by mail in last year’s election. Many students choose to be absentee voters as it’s often a long and difficult process to gain residency in their college state, so upending this process could hit this voter base hard. But even college students in their home state will face trouble if the administration ends mail-in voting as Trump recently expressed intent to. Some students on TikTok say this would make voting far more challenging, as they wouldn’t be able to get time off work or school and might not have transportation to the polls. Plus, many states don’t recognize student ID’s as valid for identification purposes. While this change is not in motion yet, it is a concern for students who rely on mail-in voting. (Her Campus)
