Burnt out Gen Z’s latest work trend? Task masking. YPulse previously told youabout the gen’s supposed “quiet quitting” behavior, which turned out to be them simply rejecting workplace norms that lack fairness, transparency about salary, and mental health support. Now, rather than openly doing the bare minimum, “task masking” involves looking busy by scheduling emails, filling calendars with real or fake meetings, and constantly signaling that they’re overloaded with work. It’s reportedly a response to the pressure to return to office full time and the need to appear productive while protecting their energy. However, YPulse data has shown before that viral Gen Z work trends aren’t always as popular as they’re made out to be. The young gen might have the backing values of their effort matching their pay, but ultimately, most highly center their career in their life. (USA Today)
