Gen Z is “glorifying tanned skin” and risking sun damage. Despite being known for their fear of aging and adoration for skin care, Gen Z is tracking the UV index not to avoid sun exposure but to chase it. Just like other gens have, they’re looking for higher numbers for better tanning opportunities. Dermatologists warn that they’re ignoring the serious risk of sun damage, premature aging, and skin cancer, though. A new survey from the American Academy of Dermatology shows nearly half of Gen Z and Millennials got sunburned last year, and while most say sun protection matters, only a little over half use it regularly. Plus, #TanTok is glamorizing tanned skin while sometimes spreading misinformation about sunscreen, leaving young people vulnerable to long-term harm. (Women’s Health Mag)
