Young people’s “passive news consumption” tendencies could decide elections.

Young people’s “passive news consumption” tendencies could decide elections. Earlier this week, YPulse reported that many Gen Z voters are turning away from Donald Trump—but they aren’t fully backing Democrats instead, either. According to Vox, understanding this group of swayable voters may come down to how they get their news. Some young people are “active” news consumers who follow politics closely and vote often, but the majority are “passive” consumers who come across political news through TikTok, YouTube, or influencers without actually seeking it out. And while this large group might feel informed by seeing news in passing, they’re less engaged with issues and less likely to vote. So, whichever party connects with them where they get their news first may have the upper hand in future elections simply through exposure. (Vox)
