McDonald’s is bringing back McDonaldland to score Gen Z consumers through nostalgia. It’s not the first time the brand has leaned on memories of its classic characters to connect with younger audiences. Earlier this year, they entered the Minecraft world by showcasing “blockified” versions of iconic McDonaldland characters like Grimace and the Hamburglar. And who could forget how Grimace created a huge viral moment in 2023? Now, they’re pushing the characters even further by reintroducing the full McDonaldland crew—including Birdie, Mayor McCheese, and the Fry Friends. As one of their biggest nostalgia campaigns yet, it includes a themed meal with collectible souvenirs, a special shake, immersive experiences across Fortnite and Snapchat AR, live events, and fashion and travel brand collabs.
