Gen Z is going viral for their “unemployment era” on TikTok. According to CNN, it hasn’t been this hard for Americans to find work since 2021. So, to cope with their job search struggle—a.k.a their unemployment era—Gen Z is turning to what they know best: dark humor and some comic relief. One user, @yasamelon, went viral (263K views) for a video where she explains the average day of a young unemployed person in 2025: “spending half the day on LinkedIn and the other half looking for a Waymo to run me over.” Gen Z took to the comment section to agree and vent about their own experiences. The top-liked comment joked, “LinkedIn in the morning, a little walk (if I’m lucky) and then disassociate for the night.” Another TikTok by the same creator (860K views) used the lyrics “nothing’s fine I’m torn,” explaining she looks sadder because she’s been unemployed since September despite applying for over 700 jobs.
