Gen Z’s “bacon avocado” trend isn’t about food.

Jul 02 2025

Gen Z’s “bacon avocado” trend isn’t about food. The TikTok trend has creators quickly saying “bacon avocado,” only to cut to a dramatic slow-mo moment that reveals they were actually saying something completely different—usually a confession, bold opinion, or “out-of-pocket” message. The “bait-and-switch” setup is what gets it so many views: it’s always unpredictable, easy to replicate, and gets viewers to stay until the punchline. The trend picked up after one user started experimenting with phrases like “asparagus avocado” and adding chaotic reveals in the second half. Like most viral TikTok moments, it’s weird, fast-moving, and made for the chronically online. (Her Campus)
