Liv Schmidt’s “Skinni Société” is getting pushback on TikTok—but has fans, too. Schmidt has the largest following out of all the controversial #SkinnyTok influencers. And now, she’s created a paid subscription-based Instagram group where members gain access to her “weight loss advice.” It features everything from recipes to workouts, and most importantly to her followers, a DM thread where paying members can share their weight-loss journey. And though there are 6.5K members in this group (which Schmidt reportedly makes around $130K a month from), many others are calling it out for promoting eating disorders. Critics point to Schmidt’s history of controversial comments (she has even been banned from TikTok multiple times), including telling followers, “Eat like your next weigh-in is tomorrow.” This kind of messaging has sparked backlash for glamorizing disordered habits and pushing toxic body ideals under the guise of motivation. Yet, the growing interest in her group shows just how influencable Gen Z still is about body image and wellness. (The Cut)
