A new wave of talk show hosts are taking over, and they’re doing it all on TikTok. Shows like Tiff Baira’s Street Hearts, Kareem Rahma’s Subway Takes, and Anania Williams’ Gaydar are taking the traditional talk-show or on the-street format directly to short form video. Baira, for example, hosts her dating show on the sidewalks of New York, coaching strangers through awkward first dates. Meanwhile, Rahma’s subway interviews and Williams’ queer-history comedy add a unique spin to the typical Q&A with a stranger. These shows feel more personal and spontaneous than typical late-night TV (even if they’re clearly highly planned), and their format is quick, snappy, and designed to go viral. While they now sometimes feature big-name celebrities, the focus is on creating content that feels authentic and interactive with the audience. Traditional late-night shows are catching on and taking the best clips from their episodes to share as vertical content, but Gen Z is building up a new gen of hosts. (Rolling Stone)
