Phoebe Gates just launched an online shopping price comparison tool for young women. The 22-year-old daughter of Bill Gates teamed up with her former roommate, Sophia Kianni, to help young women find the best clothing deals in a sea of (often overpriced) options—a problem she says thousands of young women like her have. Fueled especially by experiences on secondhand platforms like the RealReal and Poshmark, the two wanted their web browser tool, Phia, help girls “get the best price in one click.” It tells the user instantly whether the price point of the piece is high, low, or fair, and if it will have a comparable resale price later. Ultimately, it’s the perfect time to launch a fashion price comparison tool as 75% of 13-39-year-olds agree that online shopping should be an experience, according to YPulse. And while it isn’t exclusively for secondhand shopping, it’s resale had a big influence on how this has been shaped for young users. (NYT)
