Instagram launched Edits, a new app to rival CapCut. The video editing app gives creators pro-level video tools like second-by-second controls, green screen effects, and an idea tracking tab (without slapping a watermark on finished videos). Originally pitched as a tool for serious creators, Edits is already catching on with casual users too—it’s the No. 1 photo and video app on the App Store right now and has over 1M downloads on Google Play. Instagram is clearly hoping to pull some of the energy that viral TikTok templates and edits get over to Reels, especially if TikTok ever faces a U.S. ban. But either way, Edits could help Instagram keep Gen Z creators invested by giving them the tools they already love within its own ecosystem. (Tubefilter)
