Will Gen Z’s streaming habits keep them from the office? Probably not.

Apr 03 2025

Will Gen Z’s streaming habits keep them from the office? Probably not. Most younger employees have grown used to their work-from-home or hybrid environments, where a recent Tubi survey showed 84% stream shows and movies while working, even putting off tasks to watch shows. Among other factors, some employers are cracking down on remote positions for distractions like these, believing it kills productivity. And according to the same survey, more than half of Gen Z workers say they’re hesitant to return to office because they’ll lose their streaming time. But YPulse data shows that’s likely not true; two thirds of employed 18-24-year-olds already work fully in-person. And only 14% of those with non-worksite jobs (construction site, restaurant, a store, etc.) say they would never want to work from an office five years from now. So, while they certainly value the flexibility of a hybrid schedule, it’s not because they’re using it for entertainment hours, and they’re not rejecting office life to maintain streaming habits.
