Nintendo just dropped their Switch 2, and young gamers are the prime buyers.

Apr 02 2025

Nintendo just dropped their Switch 2, and young gamers are the prime buyers. After waiting eight years since the first Switch release, 58% of adult gamers are interested in buying a Switch 2—especially Gen Z (70%) and Millennials (71%). And with YouGov data showing Gen Z spends an average of nearly $700 a year on gaming and subscriptions, they’re a prime audience for Nintendo’s latest release. But even with their hefty spending, price will determine whether they actually snag one—31% of Gen Z gamers say affordability will influence their decision to buy the game. But with the Switch 2 allowing players to bring their existing game libraries with them, it could make upgrading a much easier choice for loyal Nintendo fans. Young consumers are also looking for upgrades when it comes to the tech and graphics, hoping for Nintendo to be on par with the likes of PlayStation and Xbox. However, Nintendo isn’t focused on emulating the competition—instead, they’ve homed in on unique game offerings, “going for style over the latest and greatest.” (CNET)
