Gen Z college students are panicking about the job marketing they’re entering. The latest group of roughly 2M grads are entering the workforce at a tough time. In the 2010s, many young adults had their sights set on tech careers—but with layoffs and hiring freezes hitting the tech industry hard, students have shifted gears, looking to government jobs for stability in recent years. And that industry seemed solid, until budget cuts and federal hiring freezes initiated by Elon Musk and DOGE threw everything into chaos. It’s not just government positions feeling the impact—nonprofits, universities, and private companies that rely on federal funding and contracts are also facing uncertainty, making it hard for Gen Z to know where to go. Some college seniors have had job offers pulled, while others have waited months with no response to their applications. Of course, young professionals don’t want to have to choose between stability and what they’re passionate about, but in today’s job market, many feel they must. (Business Insider)
