Netflix’s new docuseries Bad Influence takes a deep dive into the dark side of kid influencers. Releasing on April 9, the series follows Tiffany Smith, the “momager” behind kid influencer Piper Rockelle, as it unpacks the allegations against her and the troubling realities of the industry. There are claims that Smith created a toxic environment for the young influencers in Rockelle’s circle, with reports that she exploited them for views and control. And while Smith and Rockelle (now 17-years-old) deny the allegations, they recently settled a lawsuit over it. The docuseries comes at a time when social media fame is more appealing than ever, to kids especially—53% of 8-12-year-olds see content creation as a future career goal, according to YPulse.
